Wine

Grape marc from South Tyrolean cellars — a wine-dark surface pressed from what pressing leaves behind.

OriginSouth Tyrol / Italy

About this material

Every bottle of wine casts a shadow: grape marc, the seeds, skins and pulp left after pressing, amounting to as much as a third of the fruit's weight. The European wine industry alone produces on the order of ten million tonnes of it each year, most of it distilled off or sent to feed.

Highsociety Studio gives this organic residue a second life as a material component. Where marc is usually a seasonal by-product to be cleared away, we hold it in place — a durable surface rather than a fleeting note of the harvest.

The result is a deep, wine-toned finish sealed with a natural wax coating, its colour shifting subtly from one South Tyrolean grape variety to the next.
